First aid course
Wednesday April 8, 2026 14:00 - 16:00 BST
Led by Paula Richardson this first aid course lasts 2 hours and acts as a refresher for some and offers new training for others: it is particularly helpful for those planning fieldwork and off site visits. It is offered free to attendees at the GA conference and a certificate will be available for all participants.
Topics will include: dealing with an incident, severe bleeding, choking, recovery position, carrying out CPR and the use of a defibrillator. There will also be time to answer questions on concerns you may have such as asthma, anaphylaxis and seizures.
The course is fully practical offering the chance to revisit skills or learn new ones in a supportive environment.

Thursday April 9, 2026 12:30 - 13:50 BST
Another in the SPC ‘Geography Headaches’ series. Come and join the GA’s Secondary Phase Committee for a working lunch where we will be tackling the headaches you have raised at Conference about anything to do with teaching and leading Geography in secondary schools. The panel will be sharing their own ideas and we hope to start conversations between delegates to develop future collaboration opportunities and find your Dinner Peace!

We’d love to have as many discussion points as possible for us to get our teeth into, so if you have anything you want to raise, following this link to share a headache in your teaching today [link coming soon]

You can catch the recordings of previous SPC discussions here: https://geography.org.uk/secondary-phase-committee/

Introducing the new National Geography Olympiad
Friday April 10, 2026 12:30 - 13:50 BST
This workshop will showcase the new National Geography Olympiad competition for Year 12/13 students which will launch for all schools in Autumn 2026. It will outline the rationale behind the competition, how it works online, the pilot we have run, how to access the resources and what is expected of teachers. There will be opportunity for teachers to try a mini competition and ask questions about running the event in their own schools.
